Tournament Formats

See below for breakdown on how all our event formats work

INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENTS

EVENTS: (7) Franco SZN Kick Off Classic, Big Commish Classic, Yay Area Masters (MAJOR), SacTown Open (MAJOR), Wheless Wheels Off Classic, Rye Guy’s Good Vibes Classic, and the 2 Round Individual Tour Championship.

FORMAT: Individual Stroke Gross and Net Scoring

HOW DOES IT WORK: This is your “standard” tournament format.  Players all play their own ball through 18 holes and the lowest score after all players complete the round will win each division.  Lowest NET score (handicapped) will win the Women’s and all 3 divisions and the Lowest GROSS score (no handicap) will win the Low Gross Club Champ Division. Remember, low gross wins prizes but there are points specific for low gross standings, players only earn points for their net standings in events.  For the Individual Championship at the end of the year, it’s the same format but its the lowest score over 2 rounds combined less the championship advantage that each qualified player earns based on end of year point totals.

Handicapping: For Individual Stroke play events all players will play to their full playing handicap for the course/tees being played.

The winners of the event will be determined as follows:

  1. All Division Winners (Low Gross, D1, D2, D3, Women’s): Top player from each division for the 18 holes wins the tournament, points, prizes and Tour Credits. All other players win points from position 2-20.
  2. 2 Closest to Pin Winners.
  3. 1 Long Drive Winner
  4. 1 Putting Contest Winner.

2 MAN BEST BALL TOURNAMENTS

EVENTS: (2) The Joseph Classic and The Team Championship

FORMAT: 2 man Team Stroke Net Scoring

HOW DOES IT WORK: This is your “standard” team tournament format.  Players all play their own ball through 18 holes and on each hole your Team Score is the best net score of the 2 players in your team. The lowest total net team score after all players complete the round will win the event. For any non championship events, we usually split the field into 2 flights with the lower combined handicapped teams in one flight and the other flight with higher combined handicapped teams.  Each flight winning team wins the tournament.

HANDICAPPING: For 2 man best ball events, all players will play to 85% of their handicap with a max of 18.4 (per NCGA standard)

The winners of the event will be determined as follows:

  1. All Team winners (1-2 flights) for the 18 holes wins the tournament, points, prizes and Tour Credits. All other players win points from position 2-20.
  2. 2 Closest to Pin Winners.
  3. 1 Long Drive Winner
  4. Putting Contest Winner.

4 MAN SCRAMBLE TOURNAMENTS

EVENTS: The SHTSHW INVITATIONAL

FORMAT: 4 MAN TEAM SCRAMBLE – NET SCORING

HOW DOES IT WORK: This is one of our premier events of the year that embodies this Tour, its the SHTSHW Invitational and it’s not your standard 4 man scramble.  This isn’t your grandad’s classic charity tournament where you put together a stellar group of golfers only to lose by like 10 strokes to a group of hacks that somehow ran into a score of 43 using tons of mulligans.  This is the only scramble event hosted by the Tour and we have a action packed day planned, where you can expect a whole lot of golf — along with music, food, drinks, games and more. Players are highly encouraged to have a good time with booze, smoke and tunes on the course, this is the SHTSHW invitational after all!

This is a 4 man scramble net scoring features teams of four players competing against one another. In this format, each team’s players hit from the tee box, then the team members choose the best of the four shots for the next shot. All team members then play the second shot from that location, and again choose the best shot. Play continues in this manner until the hole is completed. The team then records its score and maintains that format for all 18 holes. And we only take the top 3 teams plus ties and we do a 3 holes alternate showdown to determine the winner.  This is the Cheat proof way of finding a worthy winner.

Special Rules include: ALL teams MUST use at least 2 tee shots from every member of the team during the round.  There is NO picking up your ball unless your team reaches the shot limit of net Double Bogey. A player on your team must make the putt regardless of how close it is to the hole unless shot limit is reached.  Once your team selects which shot to use for your next shot, you may place a marker (usually a tee) next to the ball where it lies and you may place all other balls within 1 club length not closer to the hole and you cannot better your lie. This means if you are in the rough, you must stay in the rough you cant move to the fairway.

To determine the champion of the event, the top 3 teams plus ties will have an alternate shot SHOWDOWN!
After the completion of 18 holes, we will do a 3 hole playoff (preferably on a executive course on site)  The top teams will play alternate shot (all 4 players) through the first 3 holes and the lowest total aggregate score will be crowned the champion. If after 3 holes there is a tie we will do a closest to pin challenge on the final hole. (2 players from each team) and the best shot is taken for the team.  Closest ball wins.

Handicaps for the 4 man scramble as follows.  We play each players low handicap to high on each team by the following formula: 20%+15%+10%+5%.

The winners of the event will be determined as follows:

  1. The winning team with the lowest score for the 18 holes wins the tournament, points, prizes and Tour Credits. All other players win points from position 2-20.
  2. 4 Closest to Pin Winners.
  3. 2 Long Drive Winners
  4. 1 Last Place Winners
  5. 1 Best Dressed Winners
  6. 1 Putting Contest Winner.

PAR 3 TOURNAMENTS

EVENTS: PITCH N’ SIP INVITATIONAL

FORMAT: 2 man teams, 9 holes twice (18 total), 9 Hole Scramble + 9 hole Alternate Shot = final score

HOW DOES IT WORK: This is a fun one!  We host an epic and fun contest for everyone on a par 3 or short course and it’s called the Pitch N Sip Invitational!  Open to ALL members and guests, please pick a partner or we will assign one to you as you need a 2 man team to compete. Scoring will be net, but all teams will be split into 2 flights by total team handicaps.  So higher skilled teams play against each other and lower skilled teams play against each other. In addition we offer a 3rd Fun flight for members that team up with non golfers like a friend, spouse, children, parent, etc that don’t golf. These teams will play to the handicap of the member only.

Arrive about an hour early to play in the Battle of the Bottles Putting Contest and then it’s game time!  There will be lots of sponsors for prizes for both winning and giveaway. Teams will tee off on hole 1 consecutively (or different holes at same time if shotgun start) and you will be paired with another 2 man team.

First 9 holes will be 2 man scramble with a twist!  Traditional scramble each player hits their shot and each team plays the best shot each time until you make it in the hole.  This is the same EXCEPT we add a Tee flip challenge!  That means that after both players hit a shot, you flip a tee between you and your partner and whoever the tee points to that’s the ball you play next.  You do this for every shot EXCEPT on the green.  If your next shot is on the green then just play standard scramble until the ball is in the hole. REMEMBER NO GIMMIES.

Second 9 holes (after a short intermission) will be alternate shot format.  You will meet at your hole (playing with a different pairing this time) and meet your playing partners.  For alternate shot, you will get to play with 3 clubs ONLY and 1 of the clubs should be a putter.  The format is simple, you work with your partner to decide who will tee off on the even number holes and the other will tee off on the odd number holes.  Then, after tee off you alternate shots until you make it in the hole.

HANDICAPPING: For 2 man scramble events we play to 50% of players handicaps.

The winners of the event will be determined as follows:

  1. Flight 1: Top team in the high skilled flight with the lowest combined score between the 18 holes wins the tournament, points, prizes and Tour Credits. All other players win points from position 2-20.
  2. Flight 2: Top team in the lower skilled flight with the lowest combined score between the 18 holes wins the tournament, points, prizes and money.
  3. Flight 3: Top team in the non golfer skilled flight with the lowest combined score between the 18 holes wins the tournament, points, prizes and money
  4. 3 Closest to pin winners.
  5. 1 Putting Winner.
