The Official Hittin Links Golf Tour Tournament Guide

Step by Step guide for each event

Whether this is your first competitive tournament ever or you’re a seasoned veteran here on Tour every single event is designed so anyone can win and everyone can have fun. Check out the below for tips, tricks and processes that make Tour tournaments work

Pre-Tournament

Register for the event using one of two options:

  1. Register by logging into the event page on Unknown Golf and selecting your event to register for OR
  2. Register directly on our website (for use of Tour Credits).

Ahead of each tournament seeding for the event will be handled as follows:

  1. Players can request different players that want to be paired or play with in their group and management will do their best to accommodate the request. Players can also request what time they would like to tee off and management will do our best to accommodate.
  2. Even if you don’t play in a group with anyone from your division, players will compete against others players in their own division.  Please remember your course handicap maybe less or more than your handicap depending on the difficulty of the course.
  3. Handicaps for each event will be set as follows.
    1. Players will use their current standard USGA handicap OR…
    2. Players will use their Tour Tournament Handicap for each event. Whichever number is lower will be used as the event handicap. The Tour Tournament Handicap is calculated similar to the USGA handicap calculation.  We take the average differential of your best 5 of your event scores used for your points to calculate your tour tournament handicap. Must play 5 events minimum for the Tournament Handicap to be calculated.  This feature is common amongst amateur net leagues and helps protect the field.

And when signing up for an event on Unknown Golf you may have the option to participate in OR when checking in at an event, you will have the opportunity to participate in…

  2. PLEASE check in at the self check in table usually setup near the pro shop or the putting green.  There will be a binder with the tee sheet of the day, your scorecards sorted by tee time and you can review what side games you want to play in.  You will also find some other great things at the check in table as well including trophies, possible snacks, sponsor prizes, etc.

Your Tournament entry also includes the following:

1. PUTTING CONTEST: For every tournament all players are automatically enrolled to play in the putting contest.  Before you tee off, please make your way to the putting green.  Find the dice and roll.  The number it lands on is the spot (flag) you putt from. 1 is the closest and 6 is the furthest.  Each player gets 2 putts each to make it and move on to the finale.  If you miss, you’re out.  BUT If you make it, write your name on the sheet and stick around after the round completes.  Putting contest finales take place appx 10-20 mins after the final group finishes 18.  All players are encouraged to come watch all finale participants who will get 1 putt from the 1st flag moving back through 6.  Players putt in order of how they finished (net score). This is sudden death, so if you miss your out.  Final player to make the putt wins the contest, cash and 100 bonus points! Prizes are typically $50-$150 Tour Credits for the Tour Site that you will receive after the round. SIDE RULE: If you roll a 1 and you miss both your putts, then you owe everyone in your group a drink of their choice. 🙂

2. TOURNAMENT PRIZES: With your tournament entry you will be eligible to win Tour points, Prizes and Tour Credit.  Each Tournament there will be winners (depending of field size) for each division ranging from 1st only to 1st-3rd (depending on field size) with money ranging from $100-$300 in Tour Credits typically.

3. CLOSEST TO PIN: ALL Tournaments (unless noted) will have at least 1 closest to pin hole par 3.  It is the responsibility of the first group to place the closest to pin marker, measuring tape and pencil just off the green at the Closest to Pin Hole.  It is the responsibility of the last group out to pickup the closest to pin marker, measuring tape and pencil and bring it back with them to the check in desk after the round.  Players MUST hit the green to qualify for the Closest to Pin.  If you measure and your ball is the closest write your name on the sheet.  Lowest number wins the prize. Typical prizes for CTP are worth about $50-$100 in Tour Credits and prizes.

4. LONGEST DRIVE: ALL Tournament (unless noted) will have atleast 1 Longest Drive hole.  It is the responsibility of the first group to place the Longest Drive marker and pencil on the Fairway next to their longest drive on the Long Drive hole.  If the first group does not qualify for a long drive, please leave the marker at the tee box.  It is the responsibility of the last group out to pickup longest drive marker and pencil and bring it back with them to the check in desk after the round. Players must hit the fairway to qualify for the Long Drive.  Players place the marker next to their ball on their drive and write their name on the sheet.  The last player on the sheet wins the Long Drive and prize. *NOTE: Players must still play from their own tees.  There is NO separate tee for long drive. This keeps it fair as low handicaps typically hit it further than high handicaps. Typical prizes for LD are worth about $50-$100 in Tour credits and prizes.

5. HOLE IN ONE INSURANCE: For $1 included in each tournament you enroll in our Tour’s HOLE IN ONE Insurance policy.  This ensures if you make a hole in one during the tournament, then you will win the current pot. Current pot is about $600.

6.  Raffles:  At SOME events depending on Sponsor Prize availability, at the check in table you will find raffle tickets and a raffle box. There will be special prizes varying from golf balls, golf bags, gloves, shirts, gift cards, etc from various tour sponsors and prizes will range in value of $50-$200 depending on size of field. Please grab one ticket, tear and keep 1 part for yourself and the other half please place in the raffle box. After the round Raffle tickets are then placed in a hat and randomly selected by a tour player.  Winner MUST be present to win prize.

Tournament Day Process

  1. Make sure you know your tee time and tees your playing as well as who your playing partners are.  ALL this info can be found from the Unknown Golf Event website and the app so make sure you can access both well ahead of tournament day.
  2. Follow the Tournament Rules: Familiarize yourself with the Tournament Rules as well as the individual tournament rules for each Tour event. Documents provided on website.
  3. Make your balls special. Please take some time the night before to place some special mark on your golf balls (red dot, initials, etc). This ensures you always play your ball and NEVER get assessed that terrible 2 stroke penalty for playing the wrong ball.
  4. Exchange pleasantries and scorecards. On the First Tee get to know your playing partners. Jokes, side bets, a little shit talking are all welcome. Then all Players must trade their score card with another player in the group so you track the other players scores and they track yours. You can keep your own score in the “marker” section of the score card. Please assign a player in your group to enter all scores into Unknown Golf App or Website (score of record)
  5. Double check scores. After 18, before turning in your scorecards, please double check all scores are correct against Unknown Golf and then you can submit the Unknown Golf round and scorecards.  Unknown Golf is the score of record so make sure it is correct.
  6. Declare your Ball. On the first tee please share with your playing partners which ball your playing and if you have any special markings on it.
  7. Live Scoring. One of the most exciting features of the Tour is live scoring, increases the drama of it all. At the first tee each group will designate a “Live Scorer”. This person will use the Unknown Golf  App to enter everyone’s scores after each hole. All other players can use the app to review the live leaderboard as they play.  ALL PLAYERS ARE REQUIRED TO USE THE Unknown Golf APP AS THIS IS THE SCORECARD OF RECORD.  PHYISCAL CARDS ARE TO BE USED BY PLAYERS AND DOUBLE CHECK SCORES AT THE END OF YOUR ROUND WITH YOUR PLAYING PARTNERS.
  8. Use a Proper Ball Marker: On the green make sure you are marking your balls spot with an actual marker or a coin. DO NOT use a golf tee.
  9. PLAY READY GOLF!  Rate of play is extremely important in golf tournaments so don’t ever be afraid to hit your shot or finish the hole to keep the pace up.  Review the Pace of Play Rules below for more tips
  10. Watch your step. Whether it’s on the green where you don’t want to step on other players lines or if you are in the fairway where you don’t want to get in the way of someone shot behind you, stay conscientious of your playing partners.
  11. Don’t be afraid to finish: After your first putt misses the hole, remember you have the right to “finish”. So long as you don’t step on someone else’s line you can step up to the second putt and knock it in. If not comfortable then you can mark it and allow the other player to go. Remember, NO picking up (unless you reach max score) as you must always putt ball in hole.
  12. Play it as it Lies: Unless noted before the tournament, you are not allowed to pick up, move or change your ball anywhere outside of the green. If your in a lie you can’t hit from, you can take an unplayable and place the ball within a club length for a 1 stoke penalty.
  13. Plugged Balls and Puddles. If the weather has been wet recently, but the president hasn’t declared the round a “lift, clean and place” day then the only time you can clean your ball is if the ball does get plugged in the ground or lands in a puddle (from the rain). Pull it out, wipe it off, and place it within 6 inches of plug or closest place that is not soaked.
  14. Ask Questions: Do not hesitate to ask your playing partners a question about a ruling or how to handle something weird on the course. But you can always contact Tour management too.

Post Tournament Process

  1. After your round completes, please take 5-10 to check your scorecards against your partners to ensure the Unknown Golf app is correct, sign the cards and submit them at the check in table.  Then you can put your clubs in the car. *If you made it to the putting contest finale, remember to keep your putter.
  2. For players that need to leave right after your round you’re free to do so.  Any winnings will be sent to you the week following the event.
  3. The putting contest finale and awards ceremony all take place about 20 mins after the final group finishes their round.  All players are encouraged to gather around the putting green to watch the finale play out.
  4. After the putting contest we will do the Trophy Ceremony for winners including the closest to pin and putting contest winners and take the group photos.
  5. Players are always encouraged to hang around after the ceremony for some drinks and food with your fellow players before you have to leave.
  6. With the Unknown Golf app, we will post your scores for you the day of the round.  Should there be any requested changes to your score on the app please let us know asap so we can adjust before posting.
  7. TIES??? Here on Tour we don’t believe is score runs offs to determine winners.  For all 1st place ties for all contest (besides championships) the winner will be determined by a “UP AND DOWN CHALLENGE”.  A neutral player will select a “tee shot” from somewhere around the putting green and select the target pin.  Tied players will then play the hole out and lowest score wins.  This is sudden death so you go until you get a winner.  If the course does not allow chipping on the green, then players will have a similar style putt off.
